January 19th, 2010- Parkchester Needs Parents!!  Did you know that Parkchester is in the bottom tenth percentile citywide for available foster homes?  Local youth are generally placed outside the community when in need of foster care.  Learn how to become a foster parent to provide consistency for Parkchester child or teen,  6:00-7:30pm in the Conference room.  Representatives from Leake and Watts Services will be present to answer all questions and help you begin the process.  It takes a village to raise a child.

NEWS: SRCO is a proud recipient of the New York State 21st Century Com munity Learning Centers Grant.  The Achieve Enrichment Program for children ages 6-12 will receive $500,000 for five years to deliver services to 300 local children.  Click here for more information

SRCO is a non-sectarian, community based organization located in Community District 9, serving the East Bronx and the immediate neighborhood of Parkchester. During SRCO’s first decade, the most pressing needs inspired grass roots leadership, innovative programs and a full and varied menu of services. As a result of these efforts, SRCO:

  • Provided enriched after school services to more than 400 elementary aged children;
  • Conducted summer camp for 100 pre-teen boys and girls;
  • Engaged 150 early adolescents and teens in wide-ranging arts programs and instruction;
  • Facilitated book clubs for more than 100 local adults, seniors and youth;
  •  Linked 200 adolescents to internships;
  •  Linked more than 500 children and their parents to health services including free vaccinations, eye exams and health screenings;
  • Founded the “Parkchester Community Network” linking together local agencies in order to better coordinate services to families; and

  • Provided resources, workshops and networking opportunities to support parents
